Dossier: On an ethical-responsible science for understanding linguistic-cognitive phenomena: Festschrift to Rosana do Carmo Novaes-Pinto

The deadline for submitting papers, which started on November 18, 2024, is May 2, 2025.

This call honors Prof. Dr. Rosana Novaes’ contributions to Neurolinguistics and invites research from enunciative-discursive perspectives on linguistic-cognitive functioning in normal and pathological contexts. Building on the works of scholars like Canguilhem (1970), Coudry (1986/1988), and Novaes-Pinto (1999), this volume especially welcomes studies addressing the pathologization and medicalization of life, with a focus on neurological conditions (e.g., dementia and stroke) and their impact on language and cognition. In light of the growing prevalence of these conditions and ongoing debates about the relationship between the normal and pathological in ag(e)ing, this call aims to advance understanding of the mechanisms underlying linguistic-cognitive processes, as well as the development of evaluation and rehabilitation practices based on enunciative-discursive principles.

The volume will feature papers in Portuguese and English, with a special emphasis on contributions from Novaes-Pinto (1999, 2008, 2012a, 2012b, 2017) and the Study Group on Language in Aging and Pathologies (GELEP/CNPq-Lattes), led by Professor Rosana. Submissions are encouraged that integrate higher psychological functions (attention, memory, perception, and discursive thinking) with the principle of extracorticality (Vygotsky, 1934; Luria, 1986) and enunciative-dialogical approaches inspired by Bakhtin's Circle - a theoretical framework that has been central to Professor Rosana's work.

This call invites papers in the following areas: (i) Qualitative research in Neurolinguistics, exploring its contribution to a critical discussion about the normal/pathological divide in language studies; (ii) Ethical and philosophical thought of the Bakhtin Circle and its implications for language and brain studies; (iii) Contributions from historical-cultural perspectives to understanding linguistic-cognitive functioning; (iv) Neurolinguistic approaches to semantic-lexical functioning; (v) Integrated analysis of linguistic levels, from phonology to discourse.

Ultimately, the volume seeks to promote the dissemination and systematization of research that links language and cognition through enunciative-discursive perspectives, reflecting Prof. Rosana's profound impact on Neurolinguistics and interdisciplinary theoretical-analytical efforts in human communicative, social, and symbolic activity.
