Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the relationship between home advantage and scoring first in the result of
Brazilian national championship football matches. Data from 2011 to 2014 seasons (1520 matches) were
collected. Association chi-square test, at a 0,05 level of significance, was used to analyze the data. Results
showed significant association between scoring first and winning and home advantage and winning in all
analyzed years. It was discussed that both home advantage and scoring first exert positive influence on the final result of Brazilian football championship. Therefore, coaches and professionals must stablish strategies
to optimize the use of these variables during the whole season.
