Abstract

Let me start by making a remark about the title of my presentation “Kant and Contemporary Brazilian Philosophy” given by proponents of this panel. In fact, I don’t think that there is a “Brazilian Philosophy” as one could say that Pragmatism is an American Philosophy or Absolute Idealism is a German one. Despite the fact that many persons linked to the “Instituto Brasileiro de Filosofia” and the “Revista Brasileira de Filosofia” do believe in a “Brazilian Philosophy,” I do not think that we have made a substantial and original contribution to this millenary discipline yet. Thus, I dare to correct the title and I will talk about “Kant and Contemporary Philosophy in Brazil: problems and perspectives.” I am very grateful to the North American Kant Society for inviting me, especially to Professor Rauscher. Many thanks.
