Abstract

The paper analyses the explanatory role of the political, cultural and economic variables to the support for democracy and capitalism in the East European countries. One of the major findings is that East European governments undertaking the transformation of their countries' economic institutions can count on a high level of initial reserve of support based on the discreditation of the old regime.
