Resumo

Introdução: As bibliotecas na Nigéria têm adotado as TIC, mas não têm integrado totalmente as tecnologias 4IR. Objetivo: Este estudo examinou o processo de desenvolvimento como um caso de aplicação de TIC em bibliotecas nigerianas e a necessidade de olhar na direção das tecnologias 4IR. Seis bibliotecas foram selecionadas das seis zonas geopolíticas da Nigéria. Metodologia: Para coleta de dados, foi utilizada uma pesquisa aberta enviada aos entrevistados pelo correio. Resultados: Os resultados mostram que as TIC, como sistemas de computador, correio eletrônico, MARC, OPAC, tecnologia reprográfica (máquina fotocopiadora), tecnologia de impressão (impressoras), dispositivos de armazenamento (disquete, CD), microfilmes, máquinas de fax e máquinas de digitalização têm sido usados ​​em bibliotecas desde o início da década de 1960. As descobertas também revelaram que os serviços tradicionais fornecidos pelas bibliotecas via TIC incluem Serviços de Entrega de Documentos (DDS), acesso à Web para o OPAC, preservação de recursos da biblioteca e muitos mais. Da mesma forma, os resultados mostram que a maioria dos entrevistados usa uma variedade de TIC, como internet, mídia social, e-mail, tecnologia de videoconferência, telefone e televisão, para promover serviços de biblioteca em sua comunidade. As descobertas identificaram os motivos pelos quais as bibliotecas buscam a 4IR, como uma mudança radical para os setores em geral e uma tendência e ordem do dia. Conclusão: O estudo recomenda que as bibliotecas nigerianas sejam adequadamente financiadas para adquirir tecnologias 4IR e devem considerar o recrutamento de bibliotecários com habilidades relevantes para trabalhar com a tecnologia.
