Abstract
This article analyses the process of democratization in industrial societies and it indentifyes aspects of democratic stability. It argues that the cognitive mobilization and cultural factors are crucial to stable democracy, and that the presence of post-materialist values, subjective weel-being and trust are strongly associated to it. The link between stable democracy and economic development exists because the first leads to a pro-democratic political culture.

Keywords: democratization, materialist and post-materialist values, cognitive mobilization, political culture
