Abstract

Education plays a prominent role in the sustainable development of a nation, contributing to the overall development of the country. In this sense, the distance education modality reaches a significant number of people, thus fulfilling this role. Distance education involves the use of platforms that collect a significant volume of data and information stored in student databases. These can be analyzed by educators, researchers, and administrators, giving rise to studies in the fields of Learning Analytics, Educational Data Mining, Academic Analytics, and Information Governance. However, in order to operate student data in today's years, it is necessary to closely follow the current legislation. In this direction, the European Union has legislated on the protection of personal data through the General Data Protection Regulation, No. 679 of 2016. In Brazil, it is Law No. 13,709, the General Law on the Protection of Personal Data of 2018, which came into effect in August 2020 and that governs the subject. Considering the legal and regulatory restrictions established by the legislations, as well as the possibilities offered by the field of Academic Analytics, this Doctoral Thesis aims to propose a model of Academic Analytics based on the General Data Protection Regulation in Europe, the Brazilian General Law on the Protection of Personal Data and Information Governance, to be applied in educational environments.
