Resumo
Este ensaio faz uma leitura de um romance brasileiro de 1890, de Maria Benedita Bormann, cujo enredo narra a formação de uma escritora e os obstáculos e vicissitudes de uma mulher que deseja viver da escrita. Utilizando o conceito de romance de formação de Stwart (1979) e Gubar (1981) assinala as etapas da formação da artista mulher e a busca da heroína por uma expressão própria, independência econômica e um palacete só seu.
Abstract
This paper deals with a brazilian romance, published in 1890 by Maria Benedita Bormann. The plot focus on the formative process of a woman writer and the obstacles and difficulties for a woman that wants to live by her pen. Stwart (1979) and Gubar (1981) concepts are used to show the elements that are significant in the woman’s artist development and heroine’s search for an self expression linked with economic and erotic independence and a room
of her own.
