As sacerdotisas do sol: imagens sagradas e profanas do feminino nas crônicas espanholas do século XVI

Abstract

Este artigo apresenta uma análise das representações elaboradas acerca das sacerdotisas do sol, – as acllas, – veiculadas nas crônicas de três espanhóis do século XVI: o jesuíta – Jose de Acosta, o funcionário da Coroa – Sarmiento de Gamboa e o frei mercedário Martín de Murúa. Trata-se de uma desconstrução de enunciados que identificam tais mulheres ora com o sagrado, ora com o profano, – reveladores das concepções espanholas de gênero e religião que presidiram a construção das diferenças, desigualdades, hierarquias e relações entre incas e espanhóis, e entre homens e mulheres no processo de conquista e colonização dos incas.

Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the representations of the priestesses of the sun – the acclas – transmitted in the chronicles of three Spaniards of the sixteenth’s century: the Jesuit José de Acosta, the Crown's official Sarmiento of Gamboa and the mercedarian friar Martín de Murúa. It is a study of statements that identify such women sometimes with the sacred, other times with the profane, and they disclose the Spanish conceptions of gender and religion that presided over the construction of the differences, inequalities, hierarchies and relationships among Incas and Spaniards, and among men and women, in the process of colonization of the Incas.
