A pesquisa analisa três fatores importantes para a satisfação de vida na terceira idade (o estado subjetivo de saúde, os contatos sociais e a situação financeira) em dois grupos de idosos (53-95 anos), um grupo (n=20; 10 homens, 10 mulheres) de Porto Alegre (RS), outro grupo (n=40; 20 homens, 20 mulheres) de Heidelberg (Alemanha). A pesquisa confirma a importância dos três fatores para a satisfação de vida, mas demonstra que a relação desses três fatores com a satisfação de vida são diferentes nos grupos pesquisados. A pesquisa destaca a importância de estudos transculturais, bem como a necessidade de compreender a situação de pessoas idosas não só a partir de condições objetivas de vida (contexto socio-econômico), mas também a partir da visão subjetiva das próprias pessoas.
Abstract
The study analyses three important factors influencing the life satisfaction of elderly people: subjective health state, social contacts and economic situation. Structured interviews are conducted with 60 elderly people (53-95 years), 20 from Porto Alegre, south of Brazil and 40 from Heidelberg, Germany. The research confirms the importance of the three factors to life satisfaction, but shows that the influence of the three factors is different in the two groups and also for men and women. The study points to the importance of cross-cultural research and to the need to understand the situation of elderly people not only by the objective life conditions, but also by the subjective evaluation of
those conditions, considering the point of view of the elderly themselves.
