Feministas estadunidenses nos anos 1990, preocupadas com a natureza mutável do Estado-nação em relação aos processos globais, dirigiram suas pesquisas não somente às estruturas econômicas, mas também às estruturas transnacionais que respondiam à rápida e dispersa zona de contato e encontros que traziam pessoas para um contato íntimo. Estes casos através de fronteiras recusaram ver a globalização como uma nova formação, ao invés disso, argumentaram que continuava a manter, ou mesmo exacerbava, as relações coloniais de desigualdade, oferecendo novos e recicladas perspectivas para entender sexualidade, amor e intimidade. O Estado-nação, contudo, não tem diminuído, mas simplesmente mudado o seu papel para apoiar a reestruturação capitalista e de lucro através das fronteiras, ao mesmo tempo que monitora, de perto, como os corpos se movem através dessas fronteiras.Referências
