Abstract
This paper is a commentary on the increase of crimes and governmental actions with xenophobic motivation against the Chinese, a phenomenon related to recent changes in world geopolitics. Without ignoring the ancient and structural racism of the West, the economic rise of China and the covid-19 pandemic have become new motivators of Sinophobia, as a form of reaction led by the USA and replicated in several countries - including Brazil. These acts,
as well as statements by Brazilian and US officials, suggest that this form of Sinophobia is a reaction to a nascent multipolar world, in which China will be the No. 1 economy.
