Tannat Landscape: vineyards and wines culture in the Northwest Litoral [Uruguay]

Abstract

A territory: the city of Salto and their rural orchards ranging in part to the South of river Dayman towards the neighbouring Department of Paysandú. Certain forms: built traces of Pascual Harriague activity, pioneer of national winemaking; evidence of ancient cellars abandoned or transformed, scattered in urban and rural territory; the new vineyards and wineries, some of whose quality wines are gaining renown international awards. Among these references has passed more than one century. Recreates from the new small wineries, the essential Harriague contribution, fundamental in the wine history of our country; together with who, at the end of the 19th century in a vast territory, grew this century-old culture of planters of vines and wines producers, of European immigrant origin. And thus continues the construction of a cultural landscape, to the extent of the wines and the variety tannat as uniqueness of place.
