Hydroelectric Parnaíba Strait: environmental and socio-cultural impacts in the historical town of Amarante [Piauí], Brazil

Abstract

This text is entitled “Hydro Parnaíba Strait: environmental and socio-cultural impacts in the historical town of Amarante [Piauí], Brazil” aims to address the issue of preserving the heritage of the town of Amarante, presenting content in an original and unprecedented, nationwide and internationally. The exposed data and analysis are carried out relating to a major city, located within the State of Piauí,which will have its historic center destroyed due to flooding caused by the construction of the Hydroelectric Plant – HPP Parnaíba Strait –, to be implemented in the town. The thematic session relevant to it, this event will be the number 3, which is focused on discussions of papers in the area of Heritage and Water Resources, Energy and Environmental Regional Development. The text will address issues pertinent to the intrinsic relationship between “Heritage, Memory and Regional Development”, aiming to contribute to the main theme of the 1st. CONPADRE – International Conference on Heritage and Regional Development –, which aims to explore issues related to “Landscapes of Production, Industry, Culture and Nature”.
