Resumo

Recent approaches to the analysis of dialogue processing  have assumed that its struture has to be defined in terms of its orientation towards a goal. We think that, on the contrary, this perspective prevents us from grasping what is essential in dialogue as action, namely, its collective nature. For this reason, in this paper we begin by analyzing the idea of collective action, which we then apply to the study of dialogue, making a sharp distinction between communicative intention and intention to engage in dialogue.
