Abstract

The review makes a critical reading of the book Roberto Civita: the owner of the bank. The life and ideas of the editor of Veja and Abril. It is proposed to situate the biographywritten by journalist Carlos Maranhão in the context of globalization based on the definition elaborated by Santos (2000). The argument is that the work places Civita as a successful businessman who guided public opinion, but who was not able to understand the functioning of the network society, according to the definition of Castells (2003). In addition, the book tells how the owner of Veja was responsible for placing economic interests above the deontological values of the profession (KOVACH; ROSENSTIEL, 2004) without, however, leaving this transgression of journalistic
ethics evident to the reader. The work, therefore, hasa memory value and is rich in information obtained through interviews and research in Editora Abril's collection, but fails to mention the legal proceedings against the company.
