Resumo
Este artigo, fundamentado no arcabouço teórico do Knowledge-Based Urban Development (KBUD), objetiva analisar os contextos institucionais, socioambientais e urbanos dos distritos e áreas de inovação na região da Grande de Sydney, New South Wales, Austrália. Foram selecionados os casos de Macquarie, Liverpool e Western Sydney Aerotropolis (Bradfield City Centre) a partir de bases de dados como The Global Institute on Innovation Districts (GIID) e International Association of Science Parks & Areas of Innovation (IASP). A pesquisa emprega uma abordagem exploratória e qualitativa baseada em estudos de caso, incorporando entrevistas semiestruturadas, visitas de campo e análise de dados secundários. Os dados coletados foram sistematizados nos domínios do KBUD: econômico, sociocultural, espacial e institucional. Os resultados indicam que a governança nesses distritos envolve múltiplos atores públicos e privados, com uma abordagem de cima para baixo liderada por governos locais. Apesar dos esforços em promover a mobilidade urbana sustentável, o transporte individual motorizado ainda é prevalente. Foram identificadas medidas sustentáveis alinhadas à economia circular e certificações ambientais reconhecidas. A análise revela a importância de políticas públicas favoráveis, investimentos em infraestrutura e programas de subsídios para o desenvolvimento de distritos de inovação. O estudo contribui para a compreensão de como esses territórios podem promover o desenvolvimento sustentável e a resiliência urbana, destacando a necessidade de uma governança colaborativa e integrada.
