Abstract
The objective of this work is to discuss the trajectory of the Republican Party in the contests for councilor between 2008 and 2020. The party that serves as the political arm of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God presents in 2022 the sixth largest bench in the National Chamber. To explore explanations for the growth of Republicans in the last municipal elections, the analysis was based on hypothesis testing through Pearson's correlation index, analysis of scatter plots, proportion indices and statistical analysis with spatialization. The results show that the success in the 2020 elections and the increase of its bench later, is the result not only of a conservative wave, but also of the greater supply of candidates, claiming for itself a municipalist characteristic, once found in other parties such as MDB. and DEM.
