Abstract

The built heritage of the border city of Remanso and Pilão Arcado slumbers in the fresh waters of Sobradinho Lake. They were submerged and/ or marooned in all its territoriality, their practices, habits, dreams and marks in fresh waters of Sobradinho Lake. It is, therefore, necessary to recover the material dimension, ie, the geographicity of the architectural landscape describing the history of the submerged border towns. The border ("beiradeiras") communities can not be understood without its space, as the socio-cultural identity of the people is linked to the attributes of the concrete space, the territory which is nothing more than a complex network of socio spatial relations. I stress that the socio-cultural force of boder city and its synergy with the geographical space puts emphasis on the importance of Environmental Heritage.
