The feminist militant translation and the silence

Abstract

The object of this article is the translation process of feminist militancy. Adopting precepts approached by Orlandi in As formas do silêncio [The forms of silence], I initially highlight the place of silence as being constitutive of the translation process, defending that the silence is what produces the demand as well as the possibility of production of the translation discourse. Sequentially, I refer to the role of female translators in the feminist militancy, who make what is silenced by the patriarchy be said and accessible to other female readers. Finally, I analyze paratexts of translations of feminist works, observing the movements of circumscription of meanings as well as of acceptance of diversity, movements made possible by the silence.
