Abstract

On the year the work Automatic Discourse Analysis (1969) by Michel Pêcheux completes fifty years, it is of utmost importance to examine the way the author produced this foundational text that established a new object of analysis in the field of Language Studies. This article will follow the double theoretical movement conceived by Pêcheux: on the one hand, to establish the demarcation line of his object in relation to the other objects that comprise the field and, on the other, to formulate and theorize the new object – discourse.
