Abstract
According to the prevailing view of the gramática de lá lingua castellana destinada al uso de los americanos, by venezuelan Andres Bello, published in Chile in the 19 th century, the originality of the Grammar is in the use of the notion of function in the grammatical definnitions, which represents the adoption of the syntatic criterion as the criterion as the only one. Contrary to this text show through the analysis of the treatment given to the name and the verb in the GLC, that the conception of the conception of the sentence in Bello intercrosses different theorethical perspectives. To the author, what the analysis shows does not withdraw the merit of this text which initiates a grammatical current in spanish. An index of its value is in having been object of só many readings for long.
