Abstract
Taking as object a journalistic utterance on one of the most important conflicts in the history of the Middle East, this article analyses, from the perspective of enunciation, the designations of Israel and Israelis, on the one hand, and of Palestine and Palestians on the other hand by the time of the celebration of the fiftieth aniversário of the creatina of the state of Israel, in 1998. In the relation between these designations and the names of the territories to which they refer the author points out the functioning of geographical demarcation as an element of constitution of one people's as 'others' and the one-way gliding in the use of "palestine" and "Arábian citizens" to refer to Israel and Israelis.
