Said Ali’s philological investigations (1975): in the names of colors, the emergence of the meaning and difference

Abstract

This text (re)presents the philologist-grammatical Manuel Said Ali. After 160 years of his birth, we present gestures in the linguistcs knowledge’s production in a sedimentation time of what is the Portuguese language in Brazil, the beginning of 30’s. We build this return by the History of Linguistic Ideas (HLI) assumptions, in dialogue with the French Discourse’s Analysis (DA), paying attention to the historicity involved on the knowledge’ production about the language, especially the places of destabilization and discontinue. Our snip for thematizes the post question focuses about a language fact, the nomination/reality relation. Therefore, we detain on the debate that Said Ali purpose, in Philological Investigations, about the colors names. We pay attention, in semantic facts, to the meanings production on the necessary language relation with its exteriority.
