Abstract
From the study of M. Said Ali on what he calls “situation expressions”, we try to understand the functioning structure of these expressions, observing from the perspective of Discourse Analysis. In this way, we produce a reflection that allows us to relate grammar and discourse, considering that S. Ali's analysis procedure displaces the notion of expletive terms, or highlighting terms, as it is in grammar, to expressions of situation, including, thus, the relationship with exteriority. Said Ali's proposal points to another way of thinking about language.
