A capital inscribed in the northeastern hinterland: the conditions of production of a discourse on the image of Teresina

Abstract

This work intends the imaginary formations of the functioning of the Northeast senses. It questions, through the language, the history of uniformity in the identification of the Brazilian northeast as a place of northeastern people, indistinct subjects who would share the same culture and history to be reverberated by the same significant materiality. To this end, an interpretative path is proposed, crossing three points, namely: the process of colonization of Piauí from the hinterland compared to the other northeastern states that did so by scratching the coast; the peculiar geographical position of Teresina, the only capital in the northeast outside the coast and its link with the Poti and Parnaíba rivers; the image of the city of Teresina tied to two of the bridges over the aforementioned rivers.
