Resumo
A leitura usual da perspectiva “antropológica” de Descartes classifica-a como um dualismo radical com uma distinção entre duas substâncias, mente e corpo, que experimentam grandes dificuldades de interação. Por meio de uma contextualização do pensamento fisiológico e psicológico de Descartes, bem como de uma leitura menos fragmentada de sua obra, pretendemos fazer uma revisão dessa interpretação tradicional, evidenciando seu caráter distorcido. Quando prestamos atenção à paixão, surge uma nova imagem de Descartes como uma espécie de monismo fenomenal, que é marcadamente diferente da imagem lendária tipicamente associada a ele, ainda hoje.
