Abstract

Innovation Management Systems (IMSs) have been discussed in the last decades due to their importance in supporting companies to innovate systematically. In parallel, Digital Transformation (DT), a topic transversal to several study fields and economic sectors, has been rapidly emerging bringing richer perspectives but also adding complexity to the innovation debate within companies. This study seeks to identify opportunities associated with an integrated approach to IMS and DT, examining how elements from these arenas might support one another. Such an integration still seems to be very incipient, and the two fields follow parallel paths in research efforts. Among the conclusions, we state that on one hand, an IMS can guide DT initiatives through processes and structure conceived to deal with high uncertainty projects; on the other hand, DT comes together with important technological and organizational concepts and trends that might foster improved IMSs.
