Abstract

This paper discusses, from the Anthropology of Christianity, how the relationship of Pentecostals with time can inspire their form of presence in the Brazilian public sphere. Through the conversion process, the faithful learn specific ways of structuring time, among them, the prophetic temporality, the focus of this article. This temporal framework generates disciplined sensitivities that exceed the lives of the faithful, stimulating the mode of Pentecostalism public incidence as an institution. To give an account of what I want to show, I will bring data referring to two events led by Silas Malafaia, one of the main evangelical leaders in Brazil. I will focus mainly on the Prophetic Act in favor of Brazil, which took place in 2016 in the context of the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff, and on the service which Malafaia receives in his church the then newly elected president Jair Bolsonaro. The context of the prophecies declared by Malafaia in both events will be the main target of the study.
