Resumo

O texto busca compreender as origens e as transformações da escola das estruturas sociais de acumulação (EESA), tendo como foco as modificações do seu conceito principal, que dá nome à abordagem. A EESA é uma das mais importantes vertentes da economia política radical americana, que se desenvolveu a partir da década de 1960 procurando explicações para o racismo, o sexismo, o imperialismo, as ondas longas do capitalismo, entre outras questões. O conceito de estrutura social de acumulação foi elaborado, a partir de meados da década de 1970, para criar um nível intermediário de análise entre uma teoria abstrata e geral do capitalismo e o seu âmbito histórico e empírico. Ao longo da evolução histórica da EESA, essa se afastou de considerações teóricas acerca das características fundamentais do capitalismo e acabou adotando posições pré-teóricas acerca dessas características. Por isso, os pesquisadores ligados à escola tiveram que reformular seu conceito central recentemente.
