Abstract
From a corpus of 389 terms related to the semantic field of animals collected in the Papantla area between 2011 and 2019, this paper presents the main lexical strategies used by Totonac speakers to name the animals in their environment. Among these, simple terms, different morphological strategies, metaphor and metonymy, borrowing, polysemy, and onomatopoeia can be mentioned.
