Resumen
La propuesta de Ramirez y França (2019) de que un cambio *a > o ocurrió innumerables veces y sin ningún tipo de condicionamiento - hipótesis presentada en oposición directa a las afirmaciones publicadas en Carvalho y Rose (2018) - es problemática desde los puntos de vista empírico y metodológico. Mostramos aquí que la supuesta evidencia relacionada con el préstamo no es convincente, que la comparación entre el guaná del siglo XVIII y el terena moderno se basa en un análisis selectivo y engañoso de las fuentes relevantes, y que la suposición de una relación de ascendencia es un vínculo directo entre el mojeño antiguo y trinitario no solo es una hipótesis innecesaria y carente de sustanciación, sino que también está en desacuerdo con otros hechos sobre el desarrollo del proto-mojeño. Más importante aún, una estratificación léxica del mojeño muestra que la correspondencia favorecida por Ramírez y França (2019) como reflejo del proto-arahuaco *a en mojeño está esencialmente restringida al vocabulario no básico, hecho que ofrece apoyo adicional a la hipótesis. de Carvalho y Rose (2018) que este patrón de correspondencias refleja el préstamo o la difusión del dialecto.
