Abstract
The anthropomorphic figurines of prehispanic age produced over millennia on the Ecuadorian coast constitute a large repository of social information. Limited, however, have been rigorous iconographic studies on them, and practically none have centered their focus on the conceptions of gender that they contain. This article summarizes the reflections and advances of a project that aims to address this topic, giving special value to a multivocal approach, which enriches the iconographic analysis with contributions from different people far removed from academia and the scientific methods of analysis.
