Abstract
Based on the ideas of archaeologist González Ruibal about the need to create alternative ways of translating the remains from the past and Randall Mcguire's on archeology and political action, we seek to discuss archaeological doing as political action and show how materiality has the power to awaken us to past events. For this, we use as an example the Installation "Vestígios de uma ausência: Uma arqueologia da Repressão" thought in 2014 by students of the Archeology of Capitalism III discipline of the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG. The Installation aims to spread repression during the Brazilian military dictatorship through objects and without the use of words. By reading the writings left by the public who visited the Installation, we seek to demonstrate the effectiveness of this alternative way of spreading knowledge of the past.
