Resumo

Este artigo analisa as diferenças das empresas em termos de atividades de inovação, vínculos externos e modos de inovação de acordo com seu tamanho e presença de capital estrangeiro. Utilizando a Pesquisa Nacional de Emprego e Inovação, mostramos que as empresas com participação de capital estrangeiro apresentam um comportamento inovador diferenciado, uma vez que são estratificadas por porte de empresa. As empresas estrangeiras em relação às empresas nacionais tendem a realizar maiores esforços de inovação e caracterizam-se pela implementação de modos de inovação mais complexos, combinando os modos DUI e STI. No entanto, as empresas estrangeiras maiores realizam, em média, relativamente menos esforços de inovação e implementam modos de inovação menos complexos. Esses resultados reavaliam as análises que consideram a heterogeneidade das firmas estrangeiras e mostram que as de maior porte relativo não são as que apresentam melhor desempenho inovador, ao contrário do que ocorre com as firmas de capital nacional.
