Resumo
Inovações sociais intentam dar respostas às necessidades e problemas sociais, expandindo os instrumentos e as capacidades para a participação dos agentes na construção de soluções, potencialmente partindo da colaboração de diversos agentes, organizações e instituições. As universidades desempenham papéis ativos no contexto dessas inovações, relacionando-se às demandas da sociedade. Investiga-se como as universidades desempenham esses papéis, objetivando observar a extensão universitária na Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Aplicou-se um questionário focalizado em uma amostra de ações de extensão. As ações mapeadas contribuem para a formulação/operacionalização de inovações de caráter social, corroborando o entendimento de que universidades exercem importantes papéis nesse contexto. Contribuem, principalmente, para a provisão de recursos e de soluções para a comunidade envolvida no projeto.
