Abstract

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the capability of companies of woodworking machinery branch to adapt its productive resources to the specific features of the concorrencial and technological environment which they are inserted. It was adopted as method three case studies of companies considered representative in the market segments which they act. The emphasis was given to the procedures of search of information that provide the foundations of companies’ decision-making in the development of new products. It was observed that these companies have in common the adoption of information search routines about the market, tied basically in sales and technical assistance activities. There are no accompaniment routines of the national and international market evolution, neither competitors nor customers market. This makes the quality of the obtained information to be tied with the abilities of employees whose main activity is the accompaniment of the demand in short term. The companies’ decision-making are based exclusively on a standard of reactive behavior that does not take into account planning activities, neither the elaboration of probable or desirable scenes for the firm.
