Resumo
A ideia de cosmopolitismo entrou recentemente em moda, apesar de sua associação com pretensões humanistas e exclusões primeiro-mundistas do pensamento iluminista europeu. O presente ensaio examina como o cosmopolitismo funciona em diferentes campos com projetos e apostas díspares, da ciência política e do meio-ambiente à teoria crítica. Como e por que o cosmopolitismo é um termo importante para nossa era globalizada? Quais são as possibilidades e os limites deste conceito? Como podemos distinguir entre um cosmopolitismo que deixa intactos os privilégios da elite global e um cosmopolitismo que desconstroi criticamente tais privilégios em nome de um mundo mais justo e habitável para todos?
