Abstract

During the interwar period in Germany, known as the Weimar Republic, the New Objectivity prevailed as a literary tendency, which advocated objective, documentary writing that was committed to the political awareness of the public. This article aims to analyze Hans Keilson’s first novel, Das Leben Geht Weiter (1933), and to investigate in what ways the text, admittedly inspired by the author's personal experiences, fits in and stands out within the scope of the New Objectivity. We seek to investigate in the novel the representation of German society in the mentioned era, which is done mainly through the subjective perspective of the protagonist Albrecht Seldersen.
