Music and Sounds According to Pasolini

Abstract

Since the beginning, Pasolini has shown a great deal of trust in music and sounds considering them essential tools for the expression and even, at the time of the anthropological revolution, similar to the actions of reality. Thus, he writes in his autobiography in verses entitled “Poeta delle Ceneri” (1966-1967): “[...] I would like to be a music writer [...] the only expressive/ perhaps high, and indefinable action like the actions of reality” (PASOLINI, 2015c, p. 1.288). Starting from this confession, this essay investigates – with an interdisciplinary approach that touches the poetic, literary, cinematographic production and Pasolini’s rational reflection – the origin of his sonorous thought and the hinges on which rests the relationship between experience, which also transits from listening, and the forms of art.
