Abstract
On this article, based on my experience as a translator of the French writer Maurice Blanchot, I propose some reflections on translation as an ethical act, understanding ethical act as the respect to the difference of the foreign language of the other, which means not adjusting it to the translator’s language, but let it open new syntactic and semantic spaces on my own language. Through this journey, besides the analysis of the chosen fragments of Blanchot’s narrative L’attente l’oubli, I intend to dialogue with three ideas that, for me, are essential to the translation act: the first, Jacques Lacan’s idea about the letter as the materiality of the signifier; the second, the idea of Antoine Berman on translation’s ethic; and, the third, Blanchot’s idea about translation as a different thing.
