Abstract

Ecocriticism stands out among the most relevant developments in contemporary literary studies, especially with regard to the field of comparative literature, postcolonial reflection and the debate on world literature; however, it is a theoretical and analytical perspective that is still poorly consolidated in Brazil, especially in the field of literary theory and criticism. Taking into account the proliferation of categories that generally intend to observe the (geological) impact of the human in its various subjectivities and through distinct critical perspectives – anthropocene, plantationcene capitalocene or chthuluceno (Moore, 2016; Haraway 2015), among others – the environment, to be understood in its inevitable convergence between people, animals, nature and the capitalist world-system, is configured as a theme and a literary problem, offering the possibility of (re)defining literature – its aesthetics, forms and genres, as well as its critical and conceptual paradigms – from an eco-environmentalist perspective.
