Resumen
La tumba de Wilde en el cementerio de Père-Lachaise en París está encerrada en una cúpula de vidrio, instalada para mantener el monolito diseñado por Jacob Epstein a salvo de las bocas insolentes que insistían en dejar marcas de lápiz labial. Este ímpetu por preservar el pasado, y un pasado heteronormativo, dice mucho de la propia crítica literaria, que, durante décadas, se alejó del lado queer de la obra de Wilde. En este ensayo, realizo una revisión bibliográfica sobre la crítica de Wilde, señalando impasses y omisiones en cuanto al tratamiento de su obra y biografía, especialmente en lo que respecta a la problemática homosexual. Presento algunas disputas que dividieron a los estudios gays y queer en su acercamiento inicial a Wilde, menciono desarrollos críticos relacionados con la obra y la biografía del autor, especialmente relacionados con los estudios sobre el fin de siècle y la relación del período con la política sexual moderna, y cierro con comentarios críticos sobre las películas Wilde (1997) y Velvet Goldmine (1998). que ejemplifican los distintos enfoques de la imagen del autor.
