Abstract

We explore some of the main argumentative lines of Rey Chow’s essay entitled The age of the world target: atomic bombs, alterity, area studies. Supported by it, we developed points related to the attitude of observation proper to the scientific perspective, its intersection with technologies of seeing, including those present in the war, and the consequent establishment of a socio-cultural reference of the link of the observer with its target that, as the author observes in the area studies, can be identified within the scope of the attention regimes that mark our connection with imaging devices. Based on Chow’s reference to Heidegger, we braided the analysis of the author’s discussions to incursions into phenomenology.
