Abstract
The present work reflects and analyzes in an introductory way the historical and social foundations that gave bases for the constitution of the Brazilian Sanitary Reform (BSR) and relates these expressions to the current dynamics from the city in the interior of Ceará. This, in order to analyze the current and the challenges of BSR based on the predominant professional conceptions and practices within the scope of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) of the neighborhood researched. The nature of our research is qualitative, having as reference dialectical historical materialism. The strategies implemented for its development were subsidized by participant observation, bibliographical and documentary research, and semi-structured interviews. As the main results, we identified a general understanding of health as a universal right and, on the part of some of the professionals interviewed, a lack of knowledge about the Sanitarist Movement and the emptying of the political agenda that laid the foundations for its creation.
