Resumen
El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar los efectos del entrenamiento perceptivo en la producción de encuentros consonánticos /s/ iniciales de palabras en la interfonología portugués de Brasil-inglés. Las hipótesis propusieron que habría una mejora en la producción después del entrenamiento y que dicha mejora también se encontraría en una prueba de retención de ocho meses y en una prueba de retención de doce años. Además, se hipotetizó que la producción de /s/+sonorantes seguiría siendo más problemática que la producción de /s/+oclusivas después del entrenamiento. Veintitrés brasileños que hablaban inglés como lengua extranjera con un nivel mínimo de competencia B1 participaron en el estudio. Ocho de ellos fueron asignados a un grupo de control. Los quince participantes restantes realizaron una prueba consistente en tareas de lectura y una entrevista antes y después de un entrenamiento perceptivo de identificación siguiendo un enfoque de alta variabilidad. Ocho meses después, ocho participantes del grupo experimental realizaron una prueba de retención con las mismas tareas de las pruebas previas y posteriores. Doce años después, una participante realizó otra prueba de retención. Los resultados indicaron que la producción de encuentros consonánticos de /s/ iniciales de palabras mejoró significativamente justo después del entrenamiento y que la mejora también se encontró en las pruebas de retención de ocho meses y doce años, incluso para los clusters que no habían sido entrenados. Las /s/+sonorantes seguían siendo más problemáticas que las /s/+oclusivas y se comprobó que la vocalización era más persistente que otros errores de pronunciación de los grupos de /s/ iniciales de palabra. La transferencia de la mejora de la percepción a la producción puede indicar que existe una representación mental común subyacente a ambos dominios y que los cambios en el rendimiento de la producción pueden reflejar cambios en la representación mental de los objetivos no nativos.
