Artaud and the Yanomami: plagues, rituals and performing arts

Abstract

The article approaches the need for developing new forms of understanding and acting in the artistic field to face the complexity of the crises that we are living through in Brazil and in the world. I return to Artaud´s visions of the plague and the theatre,
bringing then closer to perspectives of Amerindian shamans about epidemics, the violence of the colonial process and the importance of rituals. An ecology of wisdom and of reinvention of shared forms of life can be elaborated in performing arts.
