The violence of art's limits

Abstract

I ask about the possibility of art to face violence today when it is clear that it is not an exceptional interruption of life but an intrinsic part of it. I am not trying to think about how art uses violence as a “theme,” but the possibility for it to be reflected upon. I am not interested in the spectator being moved by violence’s bloody spectacle, but how crushing it might be to think in violence’s terms. Not a carnage that mutes, but one that provokes thought amid an artistic experience. The central hypothesis is that art's limits may become an ambiguous and essential resource that give rise to thought concerning violence.
