Abstract

Considering the studies and the variables involved in the influence of music in different sports, the present study aims to know the perceptions of runners about the influence of music in the race. The survey was conducted with 250 participants in a street race in Campinas-SP. Was use a questionnaire developed by the researchers, with closed questions and a series of 10 mixed and semi-structured questions. The responses of closed questions were quantitatively analyzed with the chi-square test (p <0.05), while the answers to the open questions were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, by categorizing according to the affinity between content. Of the respondents, 140 (56.00%) listen to music while practicing race; 193 (77.20%) state that listening to music makes a difference in the race; 133 (53.20%) said that music can improve of sports performance; 136 (54.40%) of participants indicated that fast songs are able to improve the performance and 168 (67.20%) said they slow songs are not able to reduce the performance in the race. According to the perceptions of runners, music can be considered a motivational resource to be used as accompaniment to the racing practice, as well as an element able to give rhythm to their development.
