Abstract

The present study aimed to identify attacking game-patterns during small-sided games played
by under-17 football players. SoccerEye observational protocol and recording software were
applied in order to register the data, and SDIS-GSEQ software was used to perform the
sequential analysis of the 260 attacking sequences. We have adopted a significance level of 5%
for the analyses of the game patterns. Results showed the existence of attacking game-patterns
during small-sided games. These patterns are related to scoring goals through the progression of
the ball by short passes and the loss of ball when the offensive line had to interact with an
advanced defensive line. Thus, we suggest that small-sided games, as well as sequential
analyses of these games, can be used as a training method to develop football attacking patterns.
